What an alcitrón is

An alcitrón is a piece of chiberro, a squash-like fruit and a type of chilacayote, candied in sugar. Honduran recipes boil the pieces in syrup, leave them to rest, heat them again until the syrup thickens, and then drain them.

Where to find them

The sweet is most closely tied to Siguatepeque, in the department of Comayagua, where shops still sell it and small producers make it by hand.

From the sweet to the mail service

Alcitron Mail is an email service for businesses, and it has nothing to do with confectionery. It carries the name of the Honduran sweet, written without the accent: alcitron.com.
